Genre - General

Genre - French for 'type' is a form of categorising all different forms of film, music, books, art and many more forms of media. From genre categorising in film we gain a general idea as to what the films focus will be based on. This is almost a second nature ability that we as the 'audience' through iconography and paradigms can automatically link a film we see or even a poster/advertisement for a film to its genre group. For example if we were looking at a poster for a film and we saw an image of a muscular man walking out of a building mid way through explosion we would presume this was a film of the 'Action - Adventure' genre through the paradigms conveyed through the image such as the typical use of a muscular man a big set piece and a large explosion. Paradigms form the genres of film today in which producers of films that want to produce a certain genre of film will use almost as a template to create there piece and we as the audience expect to see from the film. The following is a link to a genre slideshow in which popular films have there genres explained as well as one or two reasons as to why this particular film fits into this genre of film
