Narrative Continued

Narrative also consists of other elements such as the 'comprehension of time'. Very few media texts are actually filmed in the average time slot of each text (roughly 90 minutes). There are a number of ways in which time can be condensed. A classic example of this is the original run of America's prime time soap opera 'Dallas' in which the entire of the ninth season was revealed to have been a dream of one of the leading cast members in which a whole year had turned out to be a dream that had lasted only over a night times sleep. This is a prime example of a 'Dream Sequence' one form of compressing time.

Other techniques for compressing time can be through the use of flashbacks, repetition and flash forwards.
